Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.
Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
Reasons for tooth whitening:
Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
Yellow, brown stained teeth.
What does tooth whitening involve?
We are pleased to offer three types of teeth whitening
Whitening: This treatment takes about 2 hours in our office. A liquid
rubber dam will be painted onto your gum tissue to isolate your teeth and
protect your gums from any irritation that can be caused by the whitening gel.
A desensitizing agent and the whitening gel are applied to your teeth and a
special light is focused on your teeth to activate/enhance the whitening
process. The light and the gels are removed after 30 minutes to check for
whitening progress and determine if an additional 30 minute session is
necessary. Most patients notice a change in their teeth color after just this
2) Take-Home Trays: This
treatment usually requires two visits. At the first visit, impressions of your
teeth will be taken so that we can fabricate custom molds (trays) for your
mouth. At the second visit, your trays will be delivered to you. You will try
them on for proper fit and adjustments will be made if necessary. These trays
are to be worn with special whitening solution either daily for 15-30 minutes
or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and
desired level of whitening.
3) Opalescence Go:
There are 10 treatments included in each box. Each treatment contains one Upper
tray and one Lower tray that is pre-packaged with professional whitening gel. There
are no impressions, no molds, and no chair time required for this whitening
